Under Settings › Messenger, the hotel maintains the booking links to which the Website Messenger forwards guests for booking. A booking link is the address of the hotel's booking engine. Through this address, the Website Messenger opens the booking engine with details already filled in. The page opens with the “Booking links” tab.
Example: Create a booking link for the booking engine
Open the page. Open Settings › Messenger. The “Booking links” tab shows the hotel's booking links.
Start a new booking link. “Add” under “Booking links” opens the page for creating a booking link.
Select the booking engine. Under “Booking link type”, select the hotel's booking engine or “Generic”. The type cannot be changed after saving.
Set the language. Under “Language”, select one of the hotel's languages or “Available for all languages”.
Enter the link. Under “Link”, enter a booking address of the booking engine. It must start with http:// or https://.
Check the link. “Check link” reads the parameters from the address and shows them in the “URL parameters” section.
Test. “Test link” opens the booking link with arrival tomorrow, departure one week later and two adults.
Save. “Save” saves the booking link and opens the “Edit booking link” page. In the “Booking links” list, it appears with the status “Inactive”.
Activate. Open the “Booking links” tab and, in the list, select “Activate” for the booking link.
Result. The booking link has the status “Active”. The Website Messenger now offers booking to guests in their language: it asks for the arrival date and the length of stay, and a button then opens the booking engine in a new tab.
The pages in detail
Booking links
The list shows the booking links with the columns “Type”, “Language”, “Facility/Hotel”, “Link”, “Status” and “Actions”. “Available for all languages” and “Available for all hotels” appear for a booking link that applies to all languages or to all buildings and hotels.
“Activate” enables an inactive booking link. If it applies to a specific building or hotel, this sets the other active booking links of the same language and the same building or hotel to “Inactive”. A booking link without a building or hotel stays active when another booking link is activated; several of them can be active at the same time.
“Edit” opens the “Edit booking link” page.
“Disable” sets an active booking link to “Inactive” without a confirmation prompt. After that, “Language”, “Facility/Hotel” and the values under “URL parameters” can be edited again.
“Archive” archives a booking link after a confirmation prompt. The Website Messenger only uses active booking links, so it no longer uses an archived one.
A booking link cannot be deleted, only archived.
Create booking link and Edit booking link
The “Generic url settings” section contains “Booking link type” with “Generic” and 18 named booking engines, “Language”, “Facility/Hotel” and “Link”. “Booking link type” and “Link” cannot be changed after the booking link is created. “Facility/Hotel” assigns a booking link to a specific building or hotel. The Website Messenger first takes the booking link that matches the building or hotel and the language.
The “URL parameters” section shows which values the booking link passes to the booking engine, with the note “The following values are queried in Messenger and forwarded to the booking link”.
For a named booking engine, “URL parameters” shows its known parameters; only the fixed values (“Constant”) can be edited.
For “Generic”, every parameter is at first a constant, and under “Type” you can select which value it passes: Constant, Arrival date, Departure date, Arrival and departure date, Nights, Adults or Language code. A booking link can have each type except Constant only once.
“Add parameter” adds an empty row with “Name”, “Type” and “Value”, which is saved with “Save”.
An active booking link cannot be edited; the page then shows “The booking link is active and therefore cannot be edited”, and “Add parameter” is missing.
Prerequisites
‘Messenger’ does not need a licence module of its own. Channels › Website Messenger adds booking through the Website Messenger. Multi-Property adds the “Facility/Hotel” column in the “Booking links” list.
Access to ‘Messenger’ is enabled for specific users through their role. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the Website Messenger not offer booking? There is no active booking link that applies to the guest's language or to all languages. A booking link that matches the building or hotel is not enough on its own. The remedy is a booking link for this language or for all languages, enabled with “Activate”. ReGuest support can tell you whether the Website Messenger is set up for the hotel.
Why does the Website Messenger not ask for the number of adults? The booking link lacks the “Adults” parameter. Or it lacks the travel dates, without which the Website Messenger does not ask for the number of adults: it needs “Arrival and departure date” or “Arrival date” together with “Departure date” or “Nights”. For “Generic”, these types can be selected under “URL parameters”. For a named booking engine, only the fixed values (“Constant”) can be edited; there, ReGuest support can help.
Why can a booking link not be edited? It is active. “Disable” sets it to “Inactive”; after that, “Language”, “Facility/Hotel” and the values under “URL parameters” can be edited, and “Activate” enables it again.
Why is the “Messenger” menu item missing in the settings? The user's role does not enable it. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.
