Design

Under Settings › Design, the hotel sets how the guest area, emails and the messenger in the guest area look. For this there are the tabs “Designs” with colours, fonts, logo and footer, “Fonts” for the hotel's own fonts, “Editor colors” for the colour palette of the text editor and “Global Settings”. The page opens with the tab “Editor colors”.

Example: Change the colours of the guest area

The colours of an active design cannot be changed. New colours therefore come through a copy of the active design, which is then activated.

  1. Open Designs. Open Settings › Design and select the tab “Designs”. The list “Designs & Layout” shows the hotel's designs, newest first. The design that currently applies has the status “Active”.

  2. Duplicate the active design. For the active design, select “Duplicate” and confirm the prompt. The copy is created inactive and without a name, and its editor “Frontend Design” opens immediately.

  3. Name the copy. The pencil icon in the editor opens a dialog. There, give the copy a name under “Name”, and “Save” saves it.

  4. Change the colours. In the tab “Styles”, change the colours you want in the groups “Background & text colors”, “Primary color” and “Secondary colour”. The editor saves every change immediately.

  5. Check the preview. The “Preview” in the editor shows the saved design and reloads after every saved change. “Device type” switches between “Desktop”, “Tablet” and “Mobile”.

  6. Activate the copy. In the tab “Designs”, the copy is at the very top of the list “Designs & Layout”. Select “Activate” for the copy and confirm the prompt.

  7. Result. The copy now has the status “Active”, and the previously active design is switched off. The guest area, emails, the offer PDF, the online payment pages and the messenger in the guest area show the new colours.

The pages in detail

Editor colors

The page “Custom Color Palette” sets colours that the text editor offers in addition to its 22 standard colours. They are not colours of the guest area: they only take effect where someone colours text with the editor. The colours of the guest area are in the design. “Add color” adds a colour to the palette, “Save” saves the palette. As long as there is no colour, the page shows “No colors were defined yet.”

Designs

The list “Designs & Layout” shows the hotel's designs, newest first, with the columns “Id”, “Status”, “Name”, “Facility/Hotel”, “Colors” and “Created on”.

  • “Activate” makes a design the active design. One design is active per hotel. If the hotel has several buildings or hotels, one design is active per building or hotel. The previously active design of the same hotel or building is switched off.

  • “Duplicate” creates an inactive copy without a name and opens its editor. Older, imported designs do not offer “Duplicate”; their colour and font fields are locked.

  • “Details” opens the editor of a design.

  • “Email view” opens a full-screen preview window with the email view of the design, and “Platform” there shows the view of the guest platform. Neither changes anything in the design. “Platform” does not appear for every guest area.

A design cannot be deleted.

Add new design and Frontend Design

“Add” under “Designs” opens “Add new design”, and “Details” for an existing design opens the editor “Frontend Design”. Both have the tab “Styles” with the groups “Background & text colors”, “Primary color”, “Secondary colour”, “Typefaces”, “Headlines”, “E-Mail”, “Header Logo”, “Footer” and “Messenger”.

  • “Header Logo” sets the alignment of the logo under “Logo alignment”, its background with “No logo background in the header” and “Opaque color for the header logo background”, a larger spacing with “Increase inner distance (padding) of logo element”, the original size with “Use original logo dimension” and, under “Logo display width”, a width of 50 to 500 pixels.

  • “Messenger color scheme”: Only with “Customized” do the buttons in the messenger get their own colours; otherwise they come from the colours of the design.

  • “Typefaces” offers three sources: the hotel's own fonts from the tab “Fonts”, 14 standard fonts and the online catalogue of an external font service.

  • “Advanced” and “Advanced E-Mail” only appear on a saved design, and only if it has properties that none of the other groups show.

An existing design saves every change immediately. For an active design, the colour and font fields are locked. An older design with the status “migrated” shows only “Typefaces”, “Headlines”, “Header Logo” and “Footer” in the editor.

The “Preview” shows the saved design. “Device type” sets its width to “Desktop”, “Tablet” or “Mobile”, and “View” switches between “E-Mail” and “Platform” where the platform view exists. For a new design, the preview shows “Please save to see the preview” until it is saved.

Dialog at the pencil icon

The dialog holds the details that belong to the design besides the colours and fonts: the “Name”, under “Facility/Hotel” the building or hotel the design applies to, and under “Preview header image” a preview image for the header. “All facilities/hotels” means the design applies to the whole hotel. For an existing design, the addresses of the preview are added, “E-Mail preview url” and “Platform preview url”. “Save” saves these details.

Fonts

The list “Custom fonts” shows the hotel's own fonts with the columns “Font Family Name” and “Font weights”. These fonts are then available for selection in the editor of a design.

Add new custom font

“Add” under “Fonts” opens “Add new custom font”. A new font needs a name under “Font Family Name”: required, at most 50 characters and unique. It cannot be changed after the font is created. “Create” creates the font.

Edit font

“Add font variant” adds a variant to the font. Each variant has one of 9 weights under “Font Weight”, from Thin to Black, and each weight exists once per font. Saving is only possible when every variant has all four files: “.eot File”, “.ttf File”, “.woff File” and “.woff2 File”. “Delete” only appears for a new variant that has not yet been saved, and removes it. A saved font and its saved variants cannot be deleted.

Global Settings

Four checkboxes apply to all designs:

  • “Content blocks as tiles”: In the guest area, the content blocks appear as tiles as soon as a content block has an image.

  • “Square meters unit rooms as sqm instead of m²”: The area in the room name of an offer is shown as “sqm”.

  • “Room count unit letter x instead of character ×”: The guest area shows “2x Double room” instead of “2× Double room”.

  • “Use custom guest user images”: Instead of the generated placeholder image, the guest area shows a custom image for each gender.

“Save” saves the settings. If the hotel's guest area does not support these options, the page shows “ATTENTION: The active frontend design type of this instance is not supported.”

Prerequisites

  • ‘Design’ does not need a licence module of its own. With Multi-Property, the column “Facility/Hotel” is added in the list “Designs & Layout”.

  • Access to ‘Design’ is enabled for specific users through their role. The following each need their own access in the role: “Designs”, “Fonts”, “Global Settings” and saving “Editor colors” and “Global Settings”. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the guest area not change even though the editor colours were changed? The editor colours are only the palette of the text editor. The colours of the guest area are in the active design; new colours come through a copy, as in the example above.

Why can't the colours of a design be edited? The design is active, or it is an older, imported design. An active design is duplicated, the copy edited and then activated. ReGuest support can tell you whether an imported design can be made editable.

Why can't a font be saved? A variant is missing one of the four files “.eot File”, “.ttf File”, “.woff File” or “.woff2 File”; only when every variant has all four can the font be saved.

Why is a tab such as “Designs” or “Global Settings” missing? The user's role does not enable it. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Why can't the editor colours be saved? Saving needs its own access in the role. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Can a design or a font be deleted? No. Designs, saved fonts and their saved variants are kept.
