Merge images

“Merge images” combines duplicate images from the old image management into one image. Afterwards every place where one of the duplicate images was used points to this one image, and the duplicates are archived. The menu item is under Media Management › Merge images and appears only as long as the hotel still has images from the old image management.

Example: Merge duplicate images from the old image management

  1. Open Media Management › Merge images. The “Detect and merge duplicates” page shows the duplicate images in groups.

  2. In the first group, check the selected original image. Initially the image with the greatest width is selected, or, at equal width, the one with the greatest height. If another image of the group should be the original image, click that image.

  3. Click “Confirm selected original image”. Below the group, the preview of the original image appears with its 16:9, 4:3 and 2:1 sections, which ReGuest calculates itself.

  4. If a section does not fit, click it in its column. In the “Edit image section” dialog, change the section and apply it with “Select”.

  5. For every further group that is to be merged, repeat steps 2 to 4.

  6. Click “Merge all confirmed”. No confirmation prompt follows.

  7. The merged groups disappear from the page. Groups without a confirmed original image remain. If no group is left, the page shows “No duplicates were found in your image database!”.

The pages in detail

Detect and merge duplicates

The page lists groups of duplicates. A group consists of at least two non-archived images from the old image management with the same file name; logos do not count.

  • A click on an image of the group selects it as the original image, a second click on the same image cancels the selection.

  • “Confirm selected original image” confirms the selection and shows, below the group, the preview with the columns “Original image”, “16:9”, “4:3” and “2:1”. Clicking the original image again cancels the confirmation.

  • “Exact fit” appears after confirming. When it is switched on, ReGuest calculates the sections so that the whole image stays visible and missing areas are filled with white. The sections then cannot be edited.

  • “Merge all confirmed” merges all groups with a confirmed original image. The button stays disabled until all three sections exist for every confirmed original image.

If all images of a group are narrower than 1920 pixels, the page shows the notice “None of the images is in high resolution (Full HD)!”. This notice contains the button “Select alternative original image”; with it, an image can be chosen that does not belong to the group.

When merging, every use of the duplicates then points to the original image: in templates, galleries, rooms, text snippets and hotel settings. If a room gallery then contains the original image twice, only one entry remains.

Edit image section

The dialog opens with a click on a section in the “16:9”, “4:3” or “2:1” column. In it, the section can be changed, and “Select” applies it.

Prerequisites

  • ‘Merge images’ does not need a licence module of its own.

  • Access to ‘Merge images’ is enabled for specific users through their role. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Frequently asked questions

Why is “Merge images” missing from the menu? The menu item appears only if the hotel still has at least one non-archived landscape image from the old image management. ReGuest support can give further information about this.

Why is “Media Management” missing from the menu? It appears only if the user's role includes access to it. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Why can't “Merge all confirmed” be clicked? Sections are still missing for a confirmed original image. The button becomes available as soon as all three sections exist for every confirmed original image. ReGuest support can give further information about this.

Why is a group still on the page after merging? Its original image was not confirmed, so it was skipped. With “Confirm selected original image” and then “Merge all confirmed”, it is merged.

What happens to the duplicate images? They are archived, not deleted.
