Upselling

“Upselling” evaluates the additional services that guests have booked with their reservation: how many reservations have an additional service, which additional services bring the most revenue, and when and in which phase guests book them. The menu item is under Analytics › Upselling.

Example: See which additional services brought the most revenue in the previous month and when guests book them

  1. Under “Analytics”, open the “Upselling” tile. The “Upselling” page appears with the “Overview” tab. The period is set to the previous month, and “by” is set to “Arrival date”.

  2. In the “Additional services bookings” box, read the row “bookings total in the period, of which:” and the row “with additional services” below it. They show how many reservations have an arrival date in the previous month and how many of them have an additional service booked by the guest.

  3. In the “Top … booked additional services” list, read the first rows. The list is sorted by revenue, so the additional service with the highest revenue is at the top, with “Quantity” and “Total revenue”.

  4. In the “When are additional services booked?” chart, read how long before arrival the guests booked their additional services.

  5. In the “In which phase are additional services booked?” chart, read in which phase the guests booked, for example “via pre-stay notifications” or “during the stay”.

The hotel then sees which additional services brought the most revenue in the previous month, how many reservations have an additional service at all, and when the guests book them.

The pages in detail

Upselling

The “Upselling” page has one tab, “Overview”. It shows the filters, the “Additional services bookings” box, the “Top … booked additional services” list and the charts.

The filters

  • The period limits the analysis. When the page opens, the previous month is set. A date from today onwards resets the page to yesterday.

  • “by” defines what the period refers to: the “Arrival date”, which is preset, or the “Reservation date”.

  • “Booking phase of additional services” limits the analysis to one phase: “with the booking request”, “via pre-stay notifications”, “during the stay” or “directly in Messenger”. “All” shows all four phases.

  • “Device type” “First touch” limits the analysis to the device with which the guest first opened the guest pages. The choices are “all” and the icon buttons “Desktop”, “Tablet”, “Smartphone” and “Other”.

  • “Building/hotel” limits the analysis to one building or hotel. “All facilities/hotels” shows all. The filter appears only with Multi-Property.

The “Additional services bookings” box

The box shows “bookings total in the period, of which:”, the row “with additional services” and one row each for the phases “with the booking request”, “directly in Messenger”, “via pre-stay notifications” and “during the stay”. Each reservation counts once, namely in the phase in which the guest booked their first additional service for this reservation.

The “Top … booked additional services” list

The list shows the booked additional services with “Additional service”, “Quantity” and “Total revenue”, sorted by revenue. Only additional services that the guest booked themselves count. Additional services that a staff member entered, and additional services from cancelled or annulled reservations, do not count.

The charts

  • “When are additional services booked?” divides the bookings of additional services by the time before arrival into seven groups, from “during the stay” through “less than 1 day before arrival” to “more than 3 weeks before arrival”.

  • “In which phase are additional services booked?” shows how the bookings are distributed across the phases. The chart is missing as long as a single phase is selected under “Booking phase of additional services”.

  • “Additional services sold by device type” shows the additional services sold by the device types “Desktop”, “Tablet”, “Mobile” and “Other”.

  • “Where were the additional services booked?” shows whether an additional service was booked “in the Website Messenger” or “on the Guest Platform”. The chart exists only with the Website Messenger.

The charts appear only if additional services were sold in the period. There is no export or single view of a reservation on this page.

Prerequisites

  • ‘Upselling’ belongs to the Offers, Upseller and Guest Management licence modules. With Multi-Property, the “Building/hotel” filter is added. With Channels › Website Messenger, the “Where were the additional services booked?” chart is added.

  • If the module is licensed, access to it is enabled for specific users through their role. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Frequently asked questions

What must be active for “Upselling” to show values? The menu item exists only with the licence modules listed under “Prerequisites”. The page shows values only once guests have booked additional services themselves in the selected period. ReGuest support can tell you whether the licence modules are set up for the hotel.

Why is “Upselling” empty although there are reservations? No guest booked an additional service in the period. If no additional service was sold, the page shows neither the list nor the charts. A longer period or “Reservation date” instead of “Arrival date” under “by” shows other reservations.

Why is an additional service that a staff member entered for the reservation missing? In the “Top … booked additional services” list, only additional services that the guest booked themselves count. What a staff member enters does not count there, nor do additional services from cancelled or annulled reservations. ReGuest support can help further.

Why are today's figures missing? The period ends yesterday at the latest. The “Additional services bookings” box and the charts “When are additional services booked?”, “In which phase are additional services booked?” and “Additional services sold by device type” are calculated once a day for the days up to yesterday. Today's figures therefore appear only the next day.

Why is the “In which phase are additional services booked?” chart missing? A single phase is selected under “Booking phase of additional services”. With “All”, the chart appears again.

Why is the “Upselling” menu item missing? The menu item exists only with the licence modules listed under “Prerequisites”, and only a user whose role includes access to it sees it. ReGuest support can tell you whether the hotel has the licence modules. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.
