Request Sources

“Request Sources” shows where a hotel's requests come from: from which advertising channel, from which source and from which campaign. This lets a hotel see which channels bring requests and which of them lead to reservations and revenue. The menu item is under Analytics › Request Sources.

Example: See which channels this year's requests come from

  1. Open Analytics › Request Sources.

  2. Open the “Channels” tab.

  3. Leave the preset period as it is: from 1 January of the current year to yesterday. In January, it starts on 1 January of the previous year.

  4. Under “Device type”, select nothing, so that the requests from all device types count.

  5. Read the “Request Origin by Channel” chart and the table of the tab. For each channel, the table shows under “Advertising channel” the “Count” of communications, their share under “Percentage”, the “Reservations”, the “Revenue” and “ø Revenue/res.”, the average revenue per reservation. The “Total” row adds everything up.

  6. In the row of a channel, click the “Detection rule” icon.

The “<Channel> • Detection rule” table then opens below the row. It shows by which source codes a request is assigned to this channel.

The pages in detail

Communications are counted by their creation date. Communications that have no request, no offer or no reservation also count. Deleted and hidden communications are not counted, nor are communications with the status “new” and pure conversations. The figures are recalculated once a day at night, which is why the current day is usually still missing.

All three tabs let you choose whether the first or the last source that led the guest to the request counts. “Copy table to clipboard” copies the table of the tab. If there are no communications for the filters, the page says “There is no data for the selected filter criteria.”

Channels

The tab evaluates the communications by advertising channel.

  • Period and “Device type” limit which communications count. “Device type” offers “Desktop”, “Tablet”, “Smartphone” and “Other”.

  • “Show requests with empty source” includes communications without a channel in the evaluation.

  • The charts are called “Request Origin by Channel”, “Conversion by Channel” and “Booking rate by Channel”.

  • The columns are “Advertising channel”, “Count”, “Percentage”, “Offers”, “Open rate”, “Reservations”, “Conversion rate”, “Booking rate”, “Revenue” and “ø Revenue/res.”. “Conversion rate” divides the reservations by the requests, as its hint “Request 🠖 Reservation” says. “Booking rate” divides the reservations by the opened and already booked offers, as its hint “Proposal 🠖 Reservation” says.

  • Two rows without a channel: A communication without an assigned channel is listed under “source not assigned” if it carries source codes, otherwise under “without source”.

  • The “Detection rule” icon opens the “<Channel> • Detection rule” table below the row. It lists the rules of this channel with their three source codes. An empty field of a rule is shown there as “all values”.

Not assigned source codes

This section in the “Channels” tab shows the combinations of source codes that occurred in the selected period and for which there is no detection rule yet, each with its “Count”. Above it is the text: “In the selected period, there are requests with the following combinations of source codes for which there is no assignment rule yet.”

A request gets its source codes, for example, from the request form, from links in Sales Campaigns newsletters or from imports from PMS and booking portals. A detection rule assigns them to a channel and, if wanted, also to a source and a campaign.

  • “Create rule” opens the “Add detection rule” form for a row.

Add detection rule

In the form, “Advertising channel” sets the channel, “Request source” the source and “Campaign (optional)” the campaign.

  • “Advertising channel” is first set to “Please select”. For the Social Media, OTA and Social Media (paid) channels, the rule also needs a source.

  • “Campaign (optional)” can only be selected once a source has been selected under “Request source”, and not for every channel.

  • “New source...” and “New campaign...” create a new source or campaign directly in the form, under “Name of the new source” or “Name of the new campaign”.

  • “Create” saves the rule. It immediately reassigns all existing communications with exactly these source codes. Communications whose source a staff member set by hand stay as they are.

If a rule with exactly the same source codes already exists, the form reports “A rule with exactly this combination of keywords already exists for the source” and asks “Do you want to replace the existing rule with yours?” A hotel maintains all rules, sources and campaigns under Analytics › Manage Request Sources.

Sources

The tab evaluates the communications by source, for example by search engine or booking portal.

  • Filters: Period, “All channels”, “All languages” and “Device type” limit which communications count. If the tab is opened before the end of March, the preset period starts in the previous year. With Channels › Website Messenger, the “All source media” filter additionally limits the communications by their source medium.

  • “Show requests with empty source” works as in the “Channels” tab.

  • The charts are called “Request Origin by Source”, “Conversion by Source” and “Booking rate by Source”.

  • The columns start with “Request source” and “Advertising channel”, followed by the same ones as in the “Channels” tab.

  • “Direct” groups the channels that need no source.

  • The “Detection rule” icon shows the rules of the source in the row.

Campaigns

The tab evaluates the communications by campaign. It counts only communications that have a campaign assigned, and can only be limited by period and, with “All facilities/hotels”, to one building or hotel. With Sales Campaigns, the tab shows a note that only requests with correct source information are taken into account, and a link to the statistics of the hotel's own campaigns.

  • The charts are called “Request Origin by Campaign”, “Conversion by Campaign” and “Booking rate by Campaign”.

  • The columns start with “Campaign”, followed by the same ones as in the “Channels” tab.

Prerequisites

  • ‘Request Sources’ needs no licence module of its own. With Offers, the columns “Offers”, “Open rate”, “Conversion rate” and “Booking rate” and the charts for conversion rate and booking rate are added. With Channels › Website Messenger, the “All source media” filter is added in the “Sources” tab. With Multi-Property, the “All facilities/hotels” filter is added in all three tabs. With Sales Campaigns, a note with a link to the statistics of the hotel's own campaigns is added in the “Campaigns” tab.

  • Access to ‘Request Sources’ is enabled for specific users through their role. The following need their own access in the role: “Not assigned source codes”. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the “Request Sources” menu item missing? Only a user whose role includes access to it sees the menu item. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Why is a request listed under “source not assigned”? It carries source codes, but no detection rule matches them, and none of the patterns that ReGuest brings along, for example for paid search, social networks and large booking portals, matches them either. A rule created with “Create rule” in the “Not assigned source codes” section assigns it and all communications with the same source codes immediately.

Why is the “Not assigned source codes” section missing? Only a user whose role includes access to it sees the section. Roles are managed by ReGuest support.

Why does nothing change at first after editing a rule? A changed or deleted rule takes effect only after about ten minutes. A new rule takes effect immediately.

Why are today's figures missing? The figures are recalculated once a day at night. The current day therefore usually appears only on the next day.

Why are the “Offers” and “Booking rate” columns missing? These columns are only added with the Offers licence module, as stated under “Prerequisites”. ReGuest support can tell you whether the hotel has it.

Can I download the table? No. The tables can only be copied to the clipboard with “Copy table to clipboard”.
